The board/versal/post-image.sh script has an unnecessary mkdir command:
mkdir -p "${BINARIES_DIR}"
This directory is created before calling the post image scripts,
in [1].
Just above the command, the script is making a symlink for the Linux DTB in
the ${BINARIES_DIR}, so if the ${BINARIES_DIR} did not already exist with
images inside, the script would fail regardless of whether this mkdir is
executed or not.
For this reason, remove the mkdir call from the script because it is not
necessary.

Bump the versal_vek280_defconfig to use version xilinx_v2025.1_update1 of the
xilinx-prebuilt boot pacakge.
As part of this update, the vek280 pdi file has been updated and the memory
map has been corrected to match the Linux intree dts memory node, so the
vek280 dts memory node patch is no longer required.

In the process of bumping Linux kernel 6.12.10 to 6.12.40, the size of the
default Linux kernel Image file for versal products is increasing from 23.4M
to 26.9M. This is leaving limited free space in the vfat partition meaning
users may unknowingly exceed the 32M size by just adding Linux kernel configs.
To avoid potential problems, this patch doubles the size of the vfat partition
to 64M, which should be plenty of space for any configuration.

With the Segmented Configuration, the Versal PDI files will have new names:
<design>_boot.pdi - Minimal DDR and PS config for booting
<design>_pld.pdi - Remainder of FPGA design to be loaded at run-time
Since this will be the new default, this patch aligns the Buildroot file
naming by replacing the obscure vpl_gen_fixed.pdi filename with a simpler
boot.pdi filename.

identical. So this patch removes the board/versal/post-build.sh script and
replaces it with a link to the board/zynqmp/post-build.sh script.

This patch bumps the versal_vek280_defconfig to xilinx-v2024.2 which includes
the following updates:
- ATF v2.10
- Linux v6.6.40
- PLM xilinx-v2024.2
- PSMFW xilinx-v2024.2
- U-Boot v2024.01
The board specific Linux patch for the vek280 needs to be changed for the
2024.2 release. While the Linux vek280 dts files were correctly updated, the
prebuilt vpl_gen_fixed.pdi file is still not defining the DDR memory region
from address 0x8 0000 0000 to 0x8 8000 0000.
For this reason, a new patch is needed for 2024.2 which is only a work around
until the pdi file is corrected. This is why the dts patch will not be
applied upstream.
The following patch has thus been removed:
board/versal/vek280/patches/linux/0001-arm64-versal-Fix-vek280-memory-configuration.patch
And replaced with:
board/versal/vek280/patches/linux/0001-arm64-versal-vek280-prebuilt-pdi-is-incorrect.patch

This patch adds support for Xilinx Versal VEK280 Evaluation Kit.

The VEK280 requires a patch for the memory node in the dts file because it is
not currently correct. This patch has been applied to the linux-xlnx repo and
will be included in the 2024.2 release.

If using BR2_LINUX_KERNEL_CUSTOM_DTS_PATH to copy .dts files from
buildroot into the linux tree, these .dts files are copied to
arch/arm64/boot. Unfortunately, the post-image.sh script expects to find
them in arch/arm64/boot/xilinx.
This patch does not require the xilinx/ prefix to be present when
symlinking the device-tree to system.dtb where u-boot expects to find
it.
It is effectively applying the below patch for zynqmp to versal as well:

This patch fixes a problem in the vck190 boot.bin generation as it should be
using the u-boot.dtb as the u-boot device tree and not the Linux system.dtb.
While both dtbs are basically the same, it is better not to mix this up.

This patch adds support for Xilinx Versal VCK190 evaluation board.

The VCK190 is based on the Xilinx Versal family:

The VC1902 included with the VCK190 evaluation board has Xilinx
AI Engine acclerators designed for accelerating machine learning
applications. Also included is an upgrade from prior Zynq and
ZynqMP families to ARM Cortex-A72 cores.
While the Linux kernel for Versal is quite similar to ZynqMP,
the boot process has significantly changed.
Triple-redundant MicroBlaze cores are used to boot and setup
Versal devices. For this reason, current buildroot support
will download pre-built firmware images and use Xilinx bootgen
to generate the boot.bin for the vck190.
